TagUtil Firefox Extension

Tagging for all

Download the extensionTagUtil is a Firefox Extension that enables easy insertion of tags into a blog post.

TagUtil provides a rich user interface to select tags from available Tag Sources (i.e.precompiled lists of tags). Custom / user-specific tags can also be manually added and saved for further reuse.

Once the Tag Sequence (i.e. the set of tags that need to be inserted) has been specified, a one-button operation generates the html code for the Tag Sequence, and copies it into the clipboard. A subsequent ‘paste’ operation in the blog editor is all that is needed to insert the Tag Sequence into the post.

Other facilities offered include: Scheduled Pinging, Support for portable Tag Sources (as RDF files), Facility to create and share such Tag Sources (in RDF format), and Updating of LiveBookmarks for selected tag searches.

TagUtil lets users to tag their posts without having to write lengthy HTML codes. Another benefit could be, the aggregation of similar content under common tags (provided by the Tag Sources). In the present scenario, identical content is often scattered across a mutitude of synonymous tags, thereby scattering the audience as well.

TagUtil is easily invoked from the right-click menu within Firefox browser, allowing its usage while editting a post.

Tag your way into the blog world!

  1. When I invoke this extension, its main screen opens in a small window that cuts off more than half the form and cannot be resized. I can’t do anything because all the buttons to take actions (if there are any) are outside the window. How can I make the window show the whole form?

  2. DC Russell, thanks for dropping by. I have uploaded a new version that provides a resizable interface window, to work with different user settings.

  3. I like this. I use it in my Blogger blog, because they don’t support categories. It might be useful (i.e. would be useful to me, might be to others as well 🙂 to add support for importing del.icio.us tags.

    Thanks for the extension!

  4. Thanks, Chris 🙂

I do have a few more features in mind, to include in the next version of the extension. I guess support for del.icio.us (posting, as well importing bundles) would be an essential addition.

  5. Have a lot of uses for the Firefox applications. I would like to get those files out of the C:\ Folder. Shouldn’t the be in the Documents and Setting/%User Profile%MApplication Data/TagUtil/ Folder? Since there is the potential of multiple users on a
    computer? Thanx
